If you are not that familiar with fanfictions, you might want to read the following explanations first.
#1 Some important fanfiction terminology
AU (Alternate Universe) -- refers to a story of which there is a (often major) plot, setting, or character deviation away from established canon. Authors may also create and develop their own unique worlds in which to place familiar characters.
Backstory -- refers to a story about, or containing scenes of, the past history of a character as set well before the canon's timeline. The character's prior background may be previously established in canon and just further elaborated in the fic, or the backstory may be an entirely original creation of the author.
Canon - refers to elements of the story that happen in the original universe. Unlike headcanons, they are facts supported by the creators.
ER (Established Relationship) -- refers to stories featuring characters already involved in an established romantic or sexual relationship prior to the beginning of the story. The opposite of a first time fic.
Headcanon (or Personal Canon) -- refers to the personal beliefs or interpretations about canon that an author or reader makes to explain or account for some aspect of the actual canon. The headcanon itself, while not officially supported by the canon, tends also not to be actually disproven or refuted by the canon and will therefore seem plausible in the mind of the fan who imagines it. Headcanons are as many and varied as the fans themselves, may be about the past, present, or future of the character or plot, and can be shared by others if particularly enticing or believable.
OOC (Out of Character) -- refers to the fact that the characterizations used by an author are not those established by canon standards. Personality development flaws may be deliberate or accidental, for the better or (more likely) detriment to the story. Please note that even the most fantastical of AUs can be written with the characters still in-character, if one is careful.
OC (Original Character) -- refers to a non-canon character created by the author that is featured prominently in the story.
Oneshot (OS) -- refers to a single story that can be read and understood in full without having read any other prior story. Oneshots are already finished and written completely prior to posting. They will not be continued, and are usually not related to any other story by that author. Usually posted all at once rather than in parts, often as a single chapter simply because it is easiest.
OTP (One True Pairing) -- refers to an author's preferred relationship pairing between certain characters within a fandom. (An OT3, for example, refers to one's preferred trio of lovers, when two just isn't enough.) Fans may have many pairings they support, even multiple OTPs in a single fandom for different sets of characters.
Outside POV (Outside Point of View) -- refers to stories written from the perspective of a non-major character, who observes the main characters while often not knowing or recognising the significance of details that are readily apparent to the reader.
POV (Point of View) -- refers to stories written from a certain character's perspective, in which the readers experience everything within that story the same way the character does without any insight into the thoughts or motivations of the other characters. Unless the POV is omniscient, in which case the reader is aware of every characters' thoughts because they experience the story from all perspectives.
Slow Burn -- refers to stories featuring characters who gradually and naturally fall in love or lust before beginning a romantic or sexual relationship. As the emphasis is on the slow evolution of the relationship rather than a quick conflagration into sudden resolution, such stories may contain a lot of UST [Unresolved Sexual Tension] and pining until the smoldering passion eventually catches fire.
TBC (To be Continued) -- refers to the fact that the story is incomplete and a new chapter is yet to be written.
TW (Trigger Warning) -- refers to anything seen, read, or experienced that can cause a negative reaction within a trauma survivor's psyche, such as flashbacks or extreme anxiety due to exposure to something which triggers the memory of the traumatic event to replay within their minds. Authors should, out of respect to survivors, provide story warnings for the most common triggers (ex: rape, suicide, abuse, self-harm, etc...) to prevent blindsiding their readers with unexpected suffering.

The following are ratings for fanfictions provided by fictionratings.com:
Fiction K -- Intended for general audience, 5 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes.
Fiction K+ -- Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes.
Fiction T -- Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
Fiction M -- Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with non-explicit suggestive adult themes, references to some violence, or coarse language. Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA.
Fiction MA -- Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.
#3 Shipping Codenames
For each pairing, may it be canon or non-canon, there is a codename which usually is a combination of the paired characters' names. The following are the most common ships:
Pricefield -- Max and Chloe.
Grahamfield or Marren -- Max and Warren.
Chasefield -- Max and Victoria.
Marshfield -- Max and Kate.
Presfield or Caulscott -- Max and Nathan.
Jefferfield -- Max and Jefferson.
Jefferscott -- Jefferson and Nathan.
Grahamscott -- Nathan and Warren.
Chasescott -- Nathan and Victoria.
Amberprice -- Chloe and Rachel.
Amberson -- Jefferson and Rachel.
Chaseprice -- Chloe and Victoria.
Marshprice -- Chloe and Kate.
Chasemarsh - Kate and Victoria.
Amberpricefield -- Max, Chloe and Rachel.
Arcadia Gays -- often refers to Max, Chloe, Victoria and Kate.
"End Hospital" by rowanred81 - A Pricefield continuation based on a third ending where Max tries to save Chloe and instead gets shot herself. She finally wakes up in the hospital, but nothing will ever be like it was. Max won't ever be the same after everything she went through. And now Max has to rekindle her relationship with Chloe all over again, not able to let go of the memories she has from the last week she never experienced in this timeline, or the romantic feelings she developed for Chloe and which she knew Chloe had developed for her too.
"All Wounds" by D3stiny-Sm4sher - A Pricefield continuation to the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending. Max and Chloe are leaving the town and are heading for Max's parents in Seattle. They still have each other, and they are closer than ever before, but nothing is alright as Max has to deal with her survivor guilt and her nightmare-self is still haunting her, while Chloe still has to fight with her memories of Rachel. And finally, they can't just run away but have to face the consequences of Max's decision.
"Only For A Moment" by Lyswenn - A Chasefield continuation to the Sacrifice Chloe ending. "After the traumatizing week she just experienced, Max completely breaks down, but Victoria is there. She is there, and that alone is enough. Or at least, it should be. If things were that easy." Changing points of view.
